All party officials and members are prohibited by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) from making any comments regarding the Manhyia Palace and the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

Members of the NPP have also been instructed by the party’s leadership to stop talking about Ashanti Region chiefs.

The NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stated that the decision was made to make sure that no party member said anything disparaging to any local chief.

He revealed that no party member is allowed to discuss chiefs in the Ashanti Region on radio, television, Facebook, WhatsApp, or any other social media platform.

This was stated by the party’s chief scribe on Monday, January 22, 2024, at a press conference in Kumasi.

During his speech, Justin Kodua affirmed that the NPP recognizes the crucial role traditional leaders in the area play in Ghana’s development and added that no person, regardless of position within the party, has the authority to downplay the significance of chiefs in Ghana.

He said that the NPP is a political party that understands its history, origins, and how it rose to prominence in Ghana’s political system. He also said that the party will always acknowledge the existence of traditional authorities in the nation and treat them with the utmost respect.

“Throughout our rich history as a party, the NPP has always shown maximum respect to all traditional rulers across the country, particularly in the Ashanti Region” he said.

The NPP’s Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known in political circles as Chairman Wontumi, was banned after it was claimed that he had made some disparaging remarks about Otumfour Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

Following the publication of the aforementioned unprintable remarks about the Asante King by certain media outlets, the NPP chairman has since faced tremendous pressure.

Even though Chairman Wontumi has adamantly denied saying anything to belittle the Asantehene, Justin Kodua stated that the NPP is currently working with Manhyia Palace officials to resolve the issue.
