The Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station in the Dome Kwabenya constituency will host a rerun of the election, according to the Electoral Commission (EC).
Following the conclusion of the 367 polling station collation procedure, which revealed three unresolved results, this decision was made.
The EC’s Director of Training, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, clarified the situation:
“The report from the returning officers was that they have concluded collating 367 polling station results. They were left with three of the results, and the three results were brought later.
“The commission rejected one of them outrightly on the stance that it was declared on a wrong statement of poll because they used training sheets, which is not the one that they should use. So the commission has rejected one, so we decided to come and add the two and see what happens.”
The difference between the two front-runners was only 165 votes after taking into account the two legitimate outcomes.
However, 669 voters were engaged in the rejected outcome.
The EC decided to hold a rerun at that polling stations because the trailing candidate would receive more votes than the front-runner if all those votes were given to them.
The polling station in question is called Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2, according to Dr. Quaicoe. We are providing the commission with our report, and they will decide when it should be completed. However, we are guaranteed that it will be completed prior to their inauguration.
The fate of the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary contest, where each vote has substantial weight, depends on the rerun.
A seat thought to be secure for the NPP was overturned when Elikplim Akurugu of the NDC was proclaimed the victor of the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary election.
However, after some party members rushed the collation center, her win was tainted by anomalies and allegations that some pink sheets were tampered with.
