Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) national chairman, has advised party members to oppose any requests for “skirt and blouse” voting in the subsequent elections.
He pleaded with them to stick with the party’s declared presidential and parliamentary candidates.
Speaking to the party faithful at a rally, Mr. Asiedu Nketia urged them to support other parliamentary candidates and voiced his concerns about those who ran campaigns for former President John Dramani Mahama.
He characterized such actions as harmful to the party’s electoral performance and unity.
While promoting independent candidates or candidates from other parties in the legislative contest, some candidates and their supporters are deceiving voters by claiming to support John Mahama for president.
He issued a warning, saying, “The NDC will not tolerate this behavior.
The National Chairman emphasized that internal party disputes frequently result in factionalism, which can cause the party to lose important seats in Parliament.
He underlined that achieving a resounding win in the elections scheduled on December 7 required unity.
“Factionalism and divisions arising from internal elections must be set aside.
We cannot allow personal interests to jeopardize our chances of winning.
Every NDC member must focus on the bigger picture—victory for John Dramani Mahama and our Parliamentary Candidates,” he stressed.
Additionally, Mr. Asiedu Nketia cited previous cases in which people ran for “skirt and blouse” voting and then rejected the NDC in Parliament.
He gave examples of this betrayal from previous Members of Parliament, including Hawa Yakubu of Bawku Central and Boniface Saddique Abubakar Boniface of Salaga.
He made a direct plea to the residents of Gomoa Central, warning them not to back A Plus, an independent candidate who claimed to be John Mahama’s friend.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia called such statements misleading and urged voters to support John Dramani Mahama and Kofi Lawson, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for president.
“This is not the time to fall for lies and division. If we want to secure victory and bring real development to our communities, we must vote straight for the NDC both President Mahama and Kofi Lawson as MP,” he said.
In order to guarantee a landslide win in the presidential and parliamentary elections, the National Chairman urged supporters to put unity and hard work first and reiterated the party’s dedication to meeting the needs of Ghanaians.
