The ruling New Patriotic Party has declared its intention to run against the National Democratic Congress for votes in the Volta Region.
At the polls on December 7, the party claims it would aim to garner over 300,000 votes in the region, which is much more than the 100,000, 481, votes (100,481) it received in 2020.
At a news conference held in Ho on Wednesday, where the party’s director of communications, Richard Ahiagba, spoke, the NPP said that the opposition NDC had failed and ignored the people of the Volta Region over the years, despite their unwavering allegiance and support for the party.
“Notwithstanding the loyal support of the Volta Region for the NDC, the party has not treated the Volta Region as a political party should treat its stronghold in terms of meeting the development aspirations of the people.”
He hinted that the NPP, on the other hand, values the persistent growth it has recently seen from the Volta Region’s citizens and has continuously made important contributions to the region’s advancement.
He included the Free Senior High School program, the Agenda 111 hospital projects, and a number of other road, educational, and ICT infrastructure projects as important NPP government efforts that have substantially helped the local population.
Mr. Ahiagbah maintains that Dr. Bawumia’s New Patriotic Party has a plan of daring answers to the region’s development problems as the 2024 elections approach.
He said, “This will help break the NDC’s unproductive and abusive stronghold on the Volta Region and turn it into a battle ground where the NPP and the NDC will compete for votes based on programs and policies to uplift the people.”
Having said that their collaboration with the NDC has not been fruitful, he called on voters in the Volta Region to terminate it.
Regarding the particular issue of the sizable crowds that marked Dr. Bawumia’s most recent tour of the area, Mr. Ahiagbah thinks that these figures will result in votes on December 7, refuting the opposition NDC’s assertions that attendees were bused from different constituencies merely to boost the number at the campaign grounds.
