Given the tried-and-true and realistic vision he has thus far advanced for providing Ghana’s economic freedom, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, has stated he is in high hopes to win the November 4 presidential primary.

However, he is prepared to back and advocate for whoever the delegates nominate to represent the NPP in the general elections in 2024.

Let me emphasize unequivocally that I am ready to work just as hard for whoever the delegates elect to lead this Party on November 4, 2023. To keep the NPP in power, we must defeat the eight, he stated.

“The purpose of this election is to choose one of us to represent our honorable Party at the next presidential elections on December 7, 2024.

It presents us with a chance, he continued, “to come together behind one person who will lead us to “break the 8″ and not to break the Party.”

In the NPP’s Super Delegates Conference on August 26, 2023, Dr. Akoto, a former minister of agriculture and former member of parliament for Kwadaso, received 36 votes.

He expressed gratitude to the delegates for giving him the chance to compete in the major presidential primary and encouraged his supporters to work relentlessly to ensure his victory on November 4.
Dr. Akoto said his dedication to the welfare and ideals of the UP tradition had been demonstrated in many ways through his service to the Party. He also said this quality had made him popular with the Party’s delegates. Dr. Akoto holds two post-graduate degrees (M.Sc. and PhD) from one of the most prestigious universities in the world, Cambridge University.

According to him, the 2020 election should not “break” the NPP but rather strengthen it in preparation for “breaking the 8” in 2024.

On November 4, 2023, the intelligent politician—who has also spent more than 18 years working in UN systems—will face off against three other contenders in the NPP presidential primary.

On Saturday, August 26, 2023, during the Special Delegates Conference, he finished fourth, stunning many political analysts and pollsters in the process.

As he re-plans his campaign in the upcoming weeks in preparation for the party’s presidential primary “showdown,” he is anticipated to step up his efforts. Third on the ballot is Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

The widely reported elections are anticipated to see the participation of around 210,000 party delegates.
