The Ghana Police Service, in partnership with the Eastern Regional Elections Security Taskforce on Tuesday, December 3, supervised the destruction of the defective vote papers, which were recalled by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The exercise was also under the careful surveillance of all constituency election directors of all the political parties who monitored the exercise straight from their respective armories to the regional disposal location on the Akwadum road.
Because of these violations, the EC halted the Eastern and Western regions’ Special Voting exercise.
All 31 constituencies that submitted ballots for the presidential and legislative elections were destroyed, with the exception of Afram Plains North and South Constituencies.
John Appiah Baffour, the Electoral Commission’s Eastern Regional Director, told media that he was happy with the procedure.
“The workout has been a huge success. The NPP, NDC, and CPP constituency executives were all present, and we actually brought all the parties together. Before we offloaded and burned the ballot paper bags, they made sure everything was in one piece by checking the seals. Thus, it has achieved great success.
