The 52-year-old Samuel Yaw Koranteng of Nsawam, Eastern Region, is the subject of an alleged case being investigated by the Nsawam Police Command. The device is a Biometric Verification Device (BVD).
William Atamudzi, the NDC National Deputy Welfare Director, has reported that the Nsawam Constituency leadership was notified that the suspect was trying to sell a BVD in the township.
They deceived the suspect and agreed to pay GHC100.00 for the gadget in order to retrieve it.
According to reports, the suspect gave the BVD to the undercover buyers intelligence agents and members of the NDC after wrapping it in a black polythene bag.
After the suspect was apprehended, the Nsawam Police Command was given his personal information and the specifics of the Biometric Verification Device.
The suspect, who is from Brekusu, stated in a video that was filmed and posted on social media that he received the BVD from a buddy in Tudu who also deals in phones.
The BVD appears to be affiliated with the Electoral Commission (EC) or another organization that utilizes these kinds of devices, even though the EC is inscribed on it. However, the Nsawam Police Command has not released an official comment regarding the situation.
The unsolved problem of the EC’s missing laptops has increased tension in the area, especially among NDC members. The Electoral Commission has not yet addressed the matter.
