Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been officially declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) as the representative for the Tamale Central seat in parliament.
This announcement comes after Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, the former MP, died tragically in an Ashanti Region helicopter crash while serving with the Ghanaian Armed Forces.
The Tamale Central constituency’s Returning Officer, Muniru Musah, claims that Prof. Seidu’s announcement as MP-elect complies with C.I. 127.
“I, Muniru Musah, the Returning Officer of the Electoral Commission for the Tamale Central constituency, working with CI 127, therefore declare Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu as the MP-elect for the Tamale Central constituency,” he stated.
Nomination forms had been picked by four other candidates to run for the Tamale Central seat. Prof. Seidu was the only candidate when the PNC and LPG withdrew from the race after three successfully filed.
Nominations were then reopened by the EC after they had ended two days prior. Prof. Seidu was proclaimed the MP-elect based on this.
