The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has been barred by the Ghanaian Electoral Commission from running in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

In the case of Gyedu Frimpong & 4 Others vs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission, the High Court in Sekondi granted an Order for Interlocutory Injunction on May 31, 2024, which was followed by this ruling.

Until the dispute is resolved, Joana Gyan Cudjoe is prohibited by the court order from running as the legitimately elected NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central.

Furthermore, neither the Electoral Commission (EC) nor the NDC are allowed to acknowledge her as the candidate or grant her any rights or privileges.

Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of Operations, notified Gyan Cudjoe of her disqualification in a letter dated October 10, 2024, adding that the Commission is subject to the court order, which has not been revoked or suspended.

In May, the Sekondi High Court prohibited Cudjoe from claiming to be the party’s candidate for the constituency’s parliament.

Allegations that she falsified her NDC party card and voter ID led to this judgment.

Joana Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission were sued by five applicants: Gyedu Frimpong, Akubilla Daniel, Enock Ntiamoh, Isaac Twum, and Doris Aidoo.
