The use of fictitious Ghana Card numbers during voter registration at the Pusiga District Registration Center on May 13, 2024, has been discovered by the Ghanaian Electoral Commission (EC).

It was discovered that seventeen people had enrolled using fictitious Ghana Card numbers.

The EC said in a statement that the involved Registration Officer, who took phony numbers from party agents instead of physically verifying the cards, was fired and taken into custody after reporting the incident to the police.

The declaration, which was dated Monday, May 20, 2024, attested to the officer’s involvement.

The guarantor mechanism was then used to register the 17 candidates.

The registration officer has been given bail by the police while their investigation is ongoing.

“Upon investigation, it was revealed that the Ghana Card numbers were fake. It was further discovered that the registration officer was complicit because he did not physically inspect the Ghana card of individual applicants but rather accepted the fake numbers from party agents who had accompanied the 17 applicants.

“The registration officer was dismissed. A report was made to the police and he was arrested. He has since been granted a police enquiry bail while the police continue with their investigations. The 17 applicants were subsequently registered through the Guarantor System.”
