Political parties and independent candidates running in the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections have been given soft copies of the final certified voter register by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The Name Reference List, a photo register containing the details of eligible voters, the Exceptions List, which lists those who are exempt from the voting regulations, the Confidence List, the Absent Voter List, and the Transfer Voter List are all included in the register.

The last two are the Manual Verification List of people who need manual verification because of mistakes in the data collection process and the Proxy List of voters who have registered for proxy voting.

In a presentation yesterday at the EC Head Office in Accra, Dr. Yaw Ofori Adjei, the EC’s Information Technology (IT) Consultant, stated that the soft copy of the register included all of the voter registrations organized into all 16 regions and constituencies throughout the nation.

He emphasized that people with valid voter ID cards and forms 1A and 1C who were not recorded in the database because of transaction issues were included in the manual verification list.

According to Dr. Ofori Adjei, the Commission organized the PDF files for ease of monitoring, listing police departments and areas alphabetically. He also mentioned that specific police registers would be made for constituencies with particular voting needs.

During a press conference to deliver certified copies of the 2024 voter register to the political parties, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa said the final voter registration was strong and that no political party representatives had expressed any concerns or issues with it.

She claimed that even though it gave parties the chance to notify the EC of any irregularities found in the register, none of them did, indicating that everyone was happy with the register.

She expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian people for their faith in the EC, as well as to the political parties and representatives of the 2024 presidential candidates.

“Your support, your help, and your advice have contributed to the credible register that we have before us today. I use this opportunity to assure you of the Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections on December 7, 2024,” the EC Chairperson said.
