“Operation No Free Consumption,” which involves cutting off power to people who use electricity without paying for it, will begin on February 1st, according to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

ECG teams must update customer data, collect past due amounts, and disconnect customers who do not pay as part of the exercise. The last day of the plan is Thursday, February 15, 2024.

ECG has warned customers who engage in this behavior that they may be subject to legal action.

This type of non-payment is typical in some areas, according to the state power distributor, and the goal of the two-week exercise is to resolve the issue and restore regularcy to customer accounts.

According to ECG, it will ensure that individuals and companies adhere to the process of paying for the electricity they consume. It also stated that the task of taking legal action against noncompliant parties will fall under the purview of a newly established prosecution directorate.

Throughout the course of the next year, the ECG plans to address non-payment issues by utilizing a range of revenue mobilization strategies.

By initiating a similar operation, the company was able to recover more than ₵3.1 billion from defaulters last May.
