Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson and a few other minority members criticized the finance minister’s presentation, which was disputed by Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin.

Afenyo-Markin emphasized the $3 billion petroleum-based China Development Bank (CDB) loan arrangement from 2011 in order to show that Ato Forson was unsuccessful in securing the loan for Ghanaians.

In 2014, he also questioned Ato Forson’s handling of the IMF contract problem.

Further highlighting the NPP administration’s accomplishments, such as the Free SHS and landing beach projects, Afenyo Markin charged Ato Forson with failing to better the lives of those living in the Central Region under his administration.

He stressed that,” despite having an opportunity to lead for eight years, Ato Forson and the NDC did not fulfill their campaign promises. However, despite opposition criticism, the present administration has made great progress in a number of areas, including fisheries and education.”

Ato Forson was criticized for his earlier actions and decisions made while in power, illustrating the opposing parties’ and their politicians’ differing opinions and ideas.

During the interview process, Ato Forson challenged Bryan Acheampong to convince Ghanaians of his credibility if hired. You don’t trust me today, Bryan said in response. You should be endorsing my legitimacy. Ei Ato!”

On Monday, July 30, 2023, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta had earlier delivered the 2023 Mid-Year Budget. On Thursday, August 3, 2023, during a discussion of the budget, the exact same statement was used once more in parliament.

He stressed the falsity of the figures Ato-Forson, the former deputy finance minister under the John Mahama administration, said were included in the mid-year budget of the ministry of finance.

Afenyo Markin claims that in his dishonorable attempts to gain political advantage from the data he used, the NDC MP lied.
