After a GH¢15 million Water Supply Project was built in the Ashanti Region, over 40,000 people living in Ejura and its surroundings now have access to portable, clean water.
The project to supply water was a component of Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II’s plan to resolve the water crisis in the rapidly expanding population.
Ten boreholes had been built by Barimah Osei Hwedie II for some Ejura communities who shared streams with animals before the project got underway.
Following the completion of the boreholes, Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II realized that the entire Ejura enclave needed a portable water supply and so he contacted the current government for assistance.
The Community Water and Sanitation Agency, a division of the Ghanaian government, started work on rebuilding the Ejura Community Water Supply in 2022. The pipelines were not covered and the taps were broken for years.
Over 40,000 people in the area now have access to clean portable water thanks to the 90% completion of the project, which was funded by the Ghanaian government with assistance from the German bank.
On Friday, February 23, 2024, Barimah Osei Hwedie II visited the project sites to check on the ongoing construction.
The well-known chief stopped at houses and locations where residents had access to water as part of the tour.
After the tour, Barimah Osei Hwedie II thanked Ghana’s vice president, Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia, for making sure the project gets done, in an interview with OTEC News reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng.
For us at Ejura, the government, and especially Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia, will always be appreciated for this initiative that has had an inconceivable positive impact on thousands of lives. He stated.
During the tour, Madam Theodora Adomako Agyei, a staff member of the National Community Water and Sanitation, revealed that the project will feature 51 kilometers of distribution and transmission pipelines, 40 standpipes, 12 mechanized boreholes, and one high level tank.
She continued by saying that the project will provide 10,000 cubic meters of water per day to Ejura households.
Some locals thanked the Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II for his selfless leadership after noticing water flowing into their homes. They said that Barimah Osei Hwedie II’s name will be inscribed in gold so that future generations would remember his excellent work.
