Independent presidential candidate Alan John Kyerematen has caused a sensation when he suggests that Ghana, a country with a large Christian population, should choose a Christian president for its presidential elections in 2024.

During an Easter Sunday Convention speech at the Dr. Thomas Wyatt Assembly of the Church of Pentecost, he spoke these things.

During his speech, the ex-minister of Trade and Industry commended the church for its beneficial influence on society and said that electing a Christian leader like Alan Kyerematen or himself would result in a sort of “paradise” for the nation. His remarks have garnered criticism, especially from NPP activists who claim he is encouraging discord with his remarks.

It’s vital to recall that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, a Muslim, is now the NPP flagbearer. Alan Kyerematen and National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader and former president John Dramani Mahama are two well-known Christian presidential candidates.

A discussion over the place of religion in politics and the value of inclusion in a multicultural nation such as Ghana has been triggered by the candidate’s remarks.

Opponents contend that voters should be more concerned with a candidate’s leadership abilities and policies, and that concentrating on a candidate’s faith might cause division.
