Enoch Teye Mensah, also known as ET Mensah, was a member of the Council of State and a former member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.
A state funeral for him was held in the State House forecourt.
The shrewd politician, who was well-known for his devotion to and contributions to football, passed away in South Africa in October 2023 following a protracted battle with illness.
On Friday, January 5, 2024, hundreds of mourners, including politicians, public officials, and family members, gathered at the State House to pay their final respects to the Statesman.
The former Ningo-Prampram legislator was said farewell by a number of dignitaries, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President John Dramani Mahama, former Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho, and numerous others from various fields.
He was hailed as a man who genuinely served Ghana well in tributes.
The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, read the State’s tribute. He said that while ET Mensah was not perfect, his commitment to duty and ascent from humble beginnings to greatness is an accomplishment that the youth should emulate.
In a tribute read by General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwettey on behalf of the NDC, ET Mensah was described as a trailblazer and someone who discovered a remedy for political setbacks.
The Council of State paid tribute, stating that they will miss his soothing influence.
The Rt Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante, a retired Methodist Church Moderator, stated in a sermon that ET Mensah invested in his afterlife and served God and humanity.
