John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) presidential candidate, has applauded the Speaker of the House’s announcement that four seats in Parliament are vacant.

He claims that the NDC has gained a majority in Parliament even though no votes were conducted. He sees this as a hint that the NDC would do well in the forthcoming elections.

“If the report I am hearing is true, then something historic is happening. The report I am hearing is that the Speaker has declared four seats vacant. The Majority has turned into Minority and the Minority has turned into Majority. Becoming the Majority is the sign of good things to happen, even without casting a single ballot the NDC has become the Majority,” On Thursday, October 17, while on his campaign trip of Greater Accra, Mr. Mahama made the following statement at Kpone Katamanso.

Four parliamentary seats are now vacant according to Speaker of the Parliament Alban Bagbin.

Four parliamentary seats have been formally declared vacant by Speaker of the House of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin.

The ruling comes after Haruna Iddrisu, a member of parliament for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), formally petitioned the Speaker.

It follows lengthy debates and arguments on the petition submitted by former NDC Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu from both the Majority and Minority sides of the House.

Invoking Article 97 (1)(g) of the Constitution, the petition particularly targeted one MP from the NDC and three MPs from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
