The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is optimistic that Ghanaians would not support John Mahama because of what he considers to be the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer’s subpar record in administration.

As part of his visit to the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency, Dr. Bawumia informed the local traditional authority of this.

Dr. Bawumia stated that it is clear that he and John Mahama are in competition. But in his opinion, John Mahama’s tenure as President was insufficient to merit a second opportunity to govern the nation.

According to Dr. Bawumia, Ghanaians shouldn’t have to go through the years of unpredictable power supply, youthful unemployment, and the termination of teacher and nursing training allowances as part of John Mahama’s legacy.

With the implementation of the free senior high school policy, the payment of teacher and nurse training allowances, digitalization, planting for food and jobs, one constituency, one ambulance, and other initiatives, he says that the NPP administration has been all about possibilities.

During a conversation with the Chiefs, he expressed his desire to be elected in order to carry on the positive initiatives started by the NPP administration.

Taking advantage of the occasion, he restated a few of his goals, which included spending money on agriculture, outfitting the chieftaincy institution to support the government’s development plan, creating jobs, and lowering power costs by utilizing solar energy.

“The 2024 election is between myself and the former president. We have all seen the performance of the former president. This is not something someone has to tell us, we all say it. During his tenure things didn’t go on well. He said the flesh of the country is all gone and it is left with the bones.

“Getting chalk in schools was a challenge, he cancelled training allowance, and nursing training also was cancelled. Jobs were difficult for our youth but he said he was not a magician to manufacture jobs for our people. We have been experiencing ‘dumsor’ for four years.

“In 2016, we went for the election and he lost. He came back in 2020 and we didn’t vote for him. He said he is coming back this 2024. I believe that by the grace of God and your grace as well we will vote him out again for me to go,” he said.

“Since we came into office everybody will attest to the fact that we as NPP have been able to work more than the NDC” Bawumia stated.
