The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated official steps to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, after he referred to the party as “fake” and challenged its democratic principles during a television interview.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP announced it had taken “due notice” of comments made by Prof Frimpong-Boateng on Channel One TV on Monday, 12 January 2026, where he explicitly stated that he no longer views himself as a member of the party.
The statement indicates that the former minister also made what the party referred to as “disparaging remarks” regarding the NPP and claimed that the 2023 presidential primary was manipulated to benefit former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s candidate for the upcoming 2024 general elections
“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s unfortunate characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” the statement said.
It emphasized that the competition was “free, fair, transparent, and credible” and that all of the candidates had accepted it.
The NPP went on to characterize Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s actions as “highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party,” adding that his remarks in public compromised discipline and internal cohesiveness.
“Consequently, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process,” the statement concluded.
