Lawyer Anthony Akoto Ampaw, who passed away, was a fervent supporter of accountability, openness, and sound governance.
His influence on the legal history of our nation will never be forgotten, as he was committed to advancing social justice and inclusive development. Adorably referred to as “Sheey Sheey,” he was a devoted brother, father, and husband in addition to being well-known. Everyone who knew him is truly saddened by his passing, particularly in light of his exceptional leadership and membership in numerous civil society organizations that supported the Right to Information Bill (RTI).
During a courtesy visit to Parliament House in Accra, the late lawyer’s family paid Mr. Speaker these remarks. The purpose of the visit was to formally notify the Speaker of his demise and to invite the Institution of Parliament to attend the celebration of the last funeral rites. The State House forecourt will host the event on Friday, December 15, 2023.
The late lawyer’s brother, Mr. Michael Komi Akoto Ampaw, led the delegation and thanked Mr. Speaker for his gracious hospitality in spite of the short notice of the visit. Bishop Walsmith Lokko, a family friend, and Princess Fathia Nkrumah, a niece, were among the other family members present. The celebration of the last funeral rites is slated to take place on Thursday, December 14, 2023, and run through Saturday, December 16, 2023.
