Today, July 31, 2023, the mid-year budget review for 2023 will be presented in Parliament by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
The presentation was initially scheduled for July 27, 2023, but was later moved to July 25, 2023, only to be postponed once more until further notice.
Members of Parliament (MPs) and the general public are both curious about the last-minute cancellation of the budget review, and there are many theories floating about as to why it was delayed.
“In accordance with Section 28 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government of Ghana for the 2023 Financial Year, is expected to be presented to Parliament on Monday, July 31, 2023,” according to a statement from the Finance Ministry.
An update on the 2023 Budget’s execution will be given in the presentation, along with information on how the economy and finances fared in the first half of the year.
It will go over the measures taken to implement the Post COVID-19 Programme for Economic Growth (PC-PEG), which is backed by the IMF, to stabilize the economy, encourage growth, and provide social protection for the most vulnerable.
The budget-review statement will describe the crucial imperatives to regain macroeconomic stability and hasten our economic transformation while concentrating on the forecast.
The topics that will be covered include, among others: debt management, financial stability, structural reforms in expenditure commitment control and arrears clearance, and a growth strategy.
