A fire has ravaged the children’s ward at Saboba Hospital, damaging beds and other valuables.
The fire, which began at approximately 5pm, also impacted the NECO ward, which has twelve beds.
“We were able to evacuate all seven patients who were on admission at the time of the fire,” said Nurse Manager George Olamba.
He stated that the fire tender’s inability to respond properly hindered attempts to extinguish the fire, noting that local residents had to intervene, using buckets and other vessels to douse the flames
“When the fire service arrived, their pump could not respond, so the community members had to come in with buckets of water, and other containers to be able to put it off,” Mr. Olamba stated.
He mentioned that the Ghana Fire Service has begun probing the reason for the fire.
There was another fire at the girls’ dormitory of Saboba Senior High School last year, where the fire truck also malfunctioned, leading to the complete devastation of the dormitory and the loss of a student’s life.
