The food and agriculture minister has resigned.

Today, Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in the Jubilee House, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto handed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo his letter of resignation.

Dr. Akoto resigned in order to concentrate on his desire to run for president in 2024 on the New Patriotic Party platform (NPP).

President Akufo-Addo accepted the resignation and wished him well in all of his future endeavors.

After Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen on Friday, January 6, 2023, Dr. Akoto is the second official to quit this year.

They both resigned for the same reasons.

It is anticipated that Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Alan Kyerematen would compete to represent the ruling New Patriotic Party as its flag bearer (NPP).

On Friday, January 6, 2023, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo accepted Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from his position as minister of trade and industry.

Mr. Kyerematen was praised for his service to the government and the nation by President Akufo-Addo, who also expressed his best wishes for him in his future endeavors.

In the absence of a permanent appointment, the president has requested Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, minister of finance, to serve as caretaker minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The New Patriotic Party will also convene to decide on a set time for selecting its flagbearers, who will represent the party in the general elections in 2024.
