In an effort to expedite and simplify the passport application process for pilgrims from Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has announced the opening of a dedicated passport center for Hajj applicants.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 4, at the Hajj Village, Mr. Ablakwa clarified that this program is a component of the government’s effort to guarantee Muslims making the holy pilgrimage have a smooth journey.
The center will be open Tuesday, March 4, 2025, through Thursday, March 13.
Mr. Ablakwa emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing accessibility to necessary services, “We are not oblivious of the fact that for many, securing travel documents in a timely manner has been a major challenge.
To address this, our ministry has set up this special passport centre, operational from March 4 to March 13, 2025, exclusively to serve Hajj applicants.”
President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to guaranteeing that all Ghanaians, irrespective of their background, receive prompt and effective government services is reflected in this initiative, he said.
In order to make expedited passport processing more reasonable for pilgrims, the cost has been subsidized as part of the intervention.
“In collaboration with the government, we are pleased to announce that the cost of expedited passport processing has maintained to the usual ¢500 flat rate.”
He gave applicants his word that the Foreign Ministry will do everything in its power to guarantee seamless and effective service delivery during the time frame.
The Ministry is also establishing specialized kiosks at several regional passport application centers to serve applicants nationwide in order to guarantee greater access outside of Accra.
“To extend this service to as many people as possible, we are also setting up dedicated kiosks at various regional passport application centres, ensuring that applicants outside Accra can also benefit from this initiative,” he stated.
The Muslim community has mostly embraced the action, with many applauding the government’s initiative in making it easier for pilgrims to prepare for the Hajj.
