Alhaji Amadu Sulley, the former deputy chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), has died.

According to 3news, he passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, March 1, 2025.

On Sunday, March 2, 2025, his funeral services are planned in accordance with Islamic customs.

His death was confirmed in a statement from his family that 3news obtained. It also invited friends, family, and Muslim siblings to attend the funeral.

Both his home and Accra’s Madina Muslim Cemetery will host the ceremonies.

The fact that Sulley died on the first day of Ramadan while fasting was another noteworthy fact mentioned by the family.

“To Allah be the glory. May Allah forgive him and grant all our departed souls Jannat Firdaus,” the statement added.

Up until his termination in June 2018, Alhaji Sulley was the Electoral Commission’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations.

After a probe into claims of misbehavior and inefficiency, former President Nana Akufo-Addo removed him from office along with then-Chairperson Charlotte Osei and another deputy, Georgina Opoku Amankwaa.

Sulley was in charge of the 2016 general election’s operations during his time there, a position that was controversial due to internal conflicts and allegations of financial irregularities.

More information is anticipated, and the cause of his death has not been revealed.
