Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, a former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament(MP) for Bosomtwe Constituency, has formally declared his intention to run for the 2028 election flagbearer post of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum declared on Facebook that he will enter the contest as soon as the party formally opened nominations.

“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he said.

Known for his contributions to the field of education, Dr. Adutwum is one of the most recent senior NPP members to publicly express interest in heading the party into the general elections in 2028.

As the former vice president of the Akufo-Addo administration, Dr. Bawumia is regarded by many as a front-runner because he previously ran for and won the party’s 2023 flagbearership co Other powerful individuals, like as Bryan Acheampong and Kennedy Agyapong, are, nevertheless, also putting on their boots to compete.

Just a day after the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) had set Saturday, January 31, 2026, as the date of their presidential primary, Dr. Adutwum made this announcement.

This has prepared the ground for a fierce race to choose the party’s nominee for the general elections in 2028.
