Ing. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former deputy minister of roads and highways for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has returned to the political party.

This comes after he had previously chosen to run in the Ejisu By-Election as an Independent Candidate.

“In a meeting characterised by frank and open discussions of issues that have happened in the past, Owusu Aduomi announced that he has put everything behind him and went on to announce his unconditional return to the party,” reads a statement from the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the party.

He also promised to get his followers to re-join the party.

Rosemond Appiah Menka, the Chairperson of the Council of Elders, conveyed his sincere appreciation to Owusu Aduomi for accepting the invitation from the Council and choosing to rejoin the NPP.

She emphasized his important role in the Ejisu Constituency and beyond, adding that his coming back will help the party’s chances in the next elections on December 7.

Speaking on this, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, stated that the party’s chances of winning the December 2024 elections will be boosted by the former MP’s comeback.

“The NDC had thrown their weight behind Aduomi and members of the NDC who recognized him as a strong factor will not go back to their party because the NDC had voluntarily put them up to that campaign.

“So once Aduomi becomes a good material to them, they are confident of the fact that he can still represent them and if he tells them that now I would want all of us to vote for the NPP, definitely some of them will follow him.

“And so once he is coming, all the votes that he had gotten, all the disunity, all the people will join back and the party will be united, and I think that this is going to help the party’s chances because we will not go to the polls fighting each other but we will be united to fight the NDC.”

In May 2024, Mr. Kwabena Boateng of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the by-election with 27,782 votes, or 55.8% of the total votes cast.

The fact that Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the Independent Candidate, received 21,534 votes, or 43.3% of the total, shows how well-liked he is in the area.
