Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding inquiries about his residency status in the nation, his legal representatives have verified.
As per a statement issued on the issue, Mr. Ofori-Atta is presently cooperating completely with ICE while his attorneys work with the authorities to address the situation as swiftly as possible.
The statement detailed that Mr. Ofori-Atta has an outstanding petition for status adjustment, a procedure under US law enabling a person to legally stay in the country beyond the expiration of an initial visa.
His legal representatives claim this is a standard immigration process and anticipate a swift resolution to the issue.
This development occurs amid significant health issues that have kept the former minister in the United States since January 2025.
Mr. Ofori-Atta has been receiving medical care following his diagnosis of prostate cancer. Medical sources indicate that the diagnosis was validated in March 2025 after MRI scans and a biopsy revealed indications of cancer development.
