Cynthia Morrison, the member of parliament for Agona West for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced that she would run as an independent in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

During a conversation with residents, the former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection made this announcement.

“God willing, I would be contesting the parliamentary election as an independent candidate. It is not about the NDC, and it is not about the NPP. It is about the development of Agona,” she disclosed.

This follows her defeat in Saturday, April 13’s NPP parliamentary primary.

With a total of 240 votes, Christopher Arthur defeated Madam Morrison with 152 votes, earning the nomination for the Parliamentary candidate.

Nonetheless, the MP has urged voters to back her candidacy as an independent as she cares deeply about the growth of Agona West.

“It doesn’t matter if you support Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia or former President John Dramani Mahama. However, the most crucial thing is that you cast a large number of votes for Cynthia Morrison so that I may come and finish the job I began,” she explained.

The seat was won by Cynthia Morrison in the general elections of 2016.

She ran as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the 2020 election and received 30,513 votes out of 59,193 valid votes polled to win a second four-year term.
