Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, has been given GHS500,000 bail with two sureties.

This comes after he was arrested for allegedly stealing cars from the state-owned business.

After showing up at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, where he had been held while investigations were conducted, Mr. Jumah was released on bail on Monday, June 30.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor addressed a news briefing where the Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest.

She clarified that the arrest came after GIHOC Distilleries filed an official complaint alleging that Mr. Jumah had illegally taken corporate vehicles after leaving the office.

“We received a petition stating that some vehicles belonging to GIHOC Distilleries had been stolen by the former MD, Maxwell Kofi Jumah,” DCOP Donkor stated. “He is currently in our custody at the CID headquarters, assisting with the investigation.”

She added that three of the cars connected to the investigation had been found by police thus far. “We have retrieved three of the aforementioned vehicles as of this afternoon,” she noted.

“He is cooperating with the investigation, and we will proceed based on the evidence gathered.”
