Haruna Iddrisu, the Tamale South MP, has petitioned Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of the House, to declare four seats in the House vacant.

Agona West, Suhum, Amenfi Central, and Fomena are the constituencies that are impacted.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader and Effutu MP, revealed this in Parliament.

He claims that he learned about this after receiving a copy of the document that the Tamale South lawmaker had given to the Speaker of Parliament.

“This morning, I got a memo which is addressed to Mr Speaker by the respected Member for Tamale South (Haruna Iddrisu), I got a copy. He has sent a notice of petition to Mr Speaker to declare some seats vacant.

“He (Haruna Iddrisu) has listed Agona West, Suhum, Amenfi Central, and Fomena. He relies on Order 99 and also anchors the specification of Order 18 and he intends to move the House to consider this matter,” Afenyo stated.

The Majority Leader continued by stating that he has initiated legal action against the former Minority Leader because he disagrees with his actions.

Haruna Iddrisu’s action follows the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs for Agona West and Suhum submitting their nominations to run as independents in the 2024 parliamentary election.

Both the Amenfi Central MP, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the independent MP for Fomena submitted their nominations to run as independent candidates and on the NPP’s platform, respectively.
