Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the late Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, has been mourned by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The former president praised her, calling her “an adorable queen of grace and wisdom” and expressing his respect for her unflinching dedication to upholding the Ashanti Kingdom’s traditions and ideals during her reign.
In his recollection of his time as president of Ghana, former President Akufo-Addo talked about his personal friendship with the late Queen Mother and how he frequently traveled to meet her.
He announced this on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in a Facebook post.
“The late Asantehemaa was an adorable queen of grace and wisdom, who was fully committed to the values and traditions of the great Asante kingdom. She had a successful eight-year reign, and we had a good and fruitful friendship. Anytime I was in Kumasi, I did not hesitate to seize the opportunity to visit her to convey my regards,” he posted.

The former president also prayed for Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III during her transition and conveyed his condolences to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for her demise.
To formally notify him of the Asantehemaa’s passing, former President Akufo-Addo welcomed a delegation of chiefs from the Manhyia Palace acting on behalf of the Asantehene.

After serving as the Asantehemaa for eight years, Nana Konadu Yiadom III passed away at the age of 98.
During an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday, August 11, 2025, the Oyoko family revealed her death to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

On Wednesday 13th August, 2025, I had the honour of receiving, a distinguished delegation of eminent chiefs and elders from the revered Manhyia Palace, sent by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, to formally and customarily inform me of the sad passing of the 14th Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, a fellow member of the Oyoko clan.
The late Asantehemaa was an adorable queen of grace and wisdom, who was fully committed to the values and traditions of the great Asante kingdom. She had a successful eight-year reign and we had a good and fruitful friendship. Anytime I was in Kumasi, I did not hesitate to seize the opportunity to visit her to convey my regards.
I grieve with Otumfuo the Asantehene and Asanteman on such a sad loss, and pray that her venerable soul receives peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty, until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again.
