President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the urgent release of food supplies to schools in an attempt to address the food shortages that are causing harm to the Senior High Schools (SHS) nationwide.
President Mahama recognized the continuous difficulties in supplying pupils with sufficient meals during a National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held in Accra on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
“We have a challenge currently with feeding students in secondary schools,” he said.
The President instructed the Chief of Staff to distribute food supplies kept in Tema warehouses in close coordination with the Ghana Education Service in order to handle the problem.
These supplies, which were first brought in to lessen the effects of droughts, will now be used to help pupils with their current nutritional needs.
President Mahama emphasized that pupils’ education shouldn’t be interrupted by logistical difficulties and restated his administration’s commitment to the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
“This government remains dedicated to ensuring every Ghanaian child has access to quality education, free from interruptions caused by logistical issues,” he said.
The directive follows calls for parents to step in and support their children’s meals after the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) issued a warning about growing food shortages in schools.
This government reaction tries to alleviate parents and school officials while ensuring the wellbeing of pupils.
The rapid response demonstrates the administration’s dedication on tackling difficulties within the education sector and ensuring kids can learn without disruptions.
To guarantee a sustainable solution to the country’s secondary school food supply problems, more steps are anticipated.
