The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has inaugurated the third group of 636 Blue Water Guards as part of the government’s continued initiative to fight illegal mining, often referred to as galamsey.
The recently trained staff will be assigned to the Central, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions, along with other specified hotspots where illegal mining activities continue to be common.
Addressing the graduation ceremony in Jomoro on Saturday, December 20, the Minister stated that the third batch of Blue Water Guards will keep supporting the efforts of security agencies in the national battle against galamsey.
He emphasized that safeguarding Ghana’s environment and water resources is a primary concern for the government, noting that ongoing actions will be taken to combat environmental damage from illegal mining activities.
While recognizing certain achievements attained thus far, Mr. Buah stated that additional efforts are necessary and encouraged the new recruits to perform their roles with commitment, patriotism, and integrity, warning them against any type of compromise.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, present at the ceremony at Ezinlibo Naval Base, promised support for the initiative and reiterated his dedication to collaborating with the Lands Minister to eliminate galamsey.
He stressed that the battle against unlawful mining is not an assault on livelihoods and urged Ghanaians to support the government’s responsible mining initiatives.
