Galamsey Fight: NAIMOS taskforce member dies in tragic motor accident

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) team passed away following a terrible car accident close to the Obuasi Airport.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources claims that five individuals involved in the incident was en route to conduct a significant anti-galamsey operation in the area.

According to a statement from the Ministry’s Media Relations Officer, the operation was a component of continuous national initiatives to suppress illicit mining operations in the enclave.

One officer died instantly, according to the Ministry, while the other four were gravely injured.

The wounded officers are being treated right now.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources expressed profound worry for the injured personnel and his sincere condolences to the deceased officer’s family.

He promised to fully support them during their treatment and rehabilitation and hoped them a quick recovery.

The Ministry stated that a thorough inquiry has been started to ascertain the accident’s cause.

Additionally, it reassured the public of its ongoing dedication to guaranteeing the security and welfare of all frontline workers involved in the battle against illicit mining.
