Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, the Member of Parliament(MP) for the Pru East Constituency, has offered his assistance in attaining the government’s goal of having no illicit mining in forests or waterways.
In order to reduce the threat, Hon. Boam underlined the necessity of giving young people engaged in illicit mining alternate sources of income.
The Pru East Member of Parliament said that galamsey practices are strictly prohibited in the Bono East Region’s Pru East constituency in an interview with Sunyani-based Ark FM prior to the 2025 budget.
To deter young people in Pru East from participating in galamsey activities, he emphasized the significance of offering them safe and lucrative employment.
Although the nation is staunchly opposed to illicit mining, Lord Boam sees employment development as a crucial option that should not be disregarded.
The lawmaker underlined the necessity of promoting mechanized agriculture to attain significant potential in order to persuade the young people of Pru East to view the agricultural industry as a profitable business.
Hon. Boam emphasized that the constituency is perfect for large-scale agricultural because of its rich soil, human resources, and vast lands.
He thinks that the Pru East constituency is a desirable location for agricultural investment because of these potentials.
He claims that in order to guarantee food security and create jobs, the NDC government intends to enact creative policies and make large investments in the agricultural sector.
He reiterates the establishment of Farmers Service Centres, which will support farmers with modern agricultural equipment in all districts.
Lord Boam indicated that these centres will boost food production as farmers across the country will have access to machinery to plough their land.
The Pru East MP commended the Lands and Natural Resources Minister for his dedication to fighting against galamsey, citing the recent confiscation of galamsey machineries and subsequent arrest of illegal miners.
