Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has warned the government and all Ghanaians to combat the galamsey threat.
He asserted that ensuring that our forest reserves and water bodies be free of galamsey activities is in the best interests of all citizens.
Throughout the address, the Asantehene emphasized the need for the present generation to respect and protect the natural legacy that their ancestors had left behind.
In addition, the Asantehene offered a vision for Ghana’s economic revival that emphasized the development of the country’s economy and the empowerment of its businesspeople.
Recognizing that environmental care and economic growth go hand in hand, he supported policies that would promote sustainable development.
His pleas reveal a strong dedication to the values of sound government and the welfare of Ghanaians as a whole.
“Our top priority must be the reclamation of our environment from the ravages of galamsey. We cannot be the generation that destroys the most gracious heritage bequeathed to us by our forefathers to satisfy the greed of a few miscreants. For whatever it takes we must defeat this scourge,” he said.
