The nationwide strike has been suspended, according to the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The suspension “is to allow for further engagement with the Government on outstanding conditions of service concerns,” according to a communiqué sent by university authorities on October 11.
“All members of the Association are, therefore, to resume work from Monday, October 14, 2024,” the communiqué directed.
On September 18, 2024, GAUA went on strike in response to the government’s refusal to grant payment of some agreed-upon allowances and to resolve many unresolved issues pertaining to its members’ conditions of employment.
According to the group, it is hoped that the “government will demonstrate good faith and arrange for deliberations within 3 weeks, over the issues included in the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on October 7, 2024.”
