In an attempt to improve healthcare service delivery throughout the nation, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced a major reorganization of Regional Health Directors.
The reassignments, which go into effect on April 14, 2025, are intended to support the goals of the GHS and improve the healthcare system.
Previously serving as the Upper East Region’s Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS), Dr. Samuel Kwabena Boakye-Boateng has been promoted to the position of Director of the Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Division (PPMED) at GHS headquarters.
Likewise, Dr. Kennedy T.C. Brightson, who was previously the Shai-Osudoku Municipal Hospital’s Medical Superintendent, will now take over as GHS headquarters’ acting Director of Family Health.
The Northern Region’s RDHS, Dr. Abdulai Abukari, has been moved to GHS headquarters to serve as the Director of Special Duties.
Dr. Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko has been reassigned to the position of RDHS for the Central Region, leaving the PPMED at GHS headquarters.
The RDHS for the Bono East Region will be Dr. Marion Okoh-Owusu, who was previously employed with the Family Health Division (FHD) at GHS headquarters.
Dr. Damien Punguyire, who was previously the RDHS for the Upper West Region, has been moved to the Eastern Region, while Dr. Braimah Baba Abubakari, who was the RDHS for the North East Region, will now assume the same position in the Upper East Region.
Additional changes include the reassignment of Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor from the Ahafo Region to the Volta Region and the transfer of Dr. Josephat Ana-Imwine Nyuzaghi from the Savannah Region to the Upper West Region as RDHS.
Dr. Chrysantus Kubio has been moved from the Volta Region to the Bono East Region, while Dr. Akosua A. Owusu-Sarpong, who was previously the RDHS for the Greater Accra Region, will now be the RDHS for the Ahafo Region.
Former Bono East RDHS employee Dr. Paulina Clara Appiah will now work in the Western North Region.
The RDHS for the Northern Region will now be Dr. Godfred Kwabena Sarpong, who formerly served in that capacity for the Western North Region.
The North East Region’s RDHS is Dr. John Ekow Otoo, who was previously the Upper West Regional Hospital’s medical director.
The Acting Regional Director for the Greater Accra Region is Dr. Robert Amesiya, formerly the RDHS for the Savannah Region.
These reassignments are essential to guaranteeing effective and efficient healthcare delivery, according to the Ghana Health Service.
