14,135 road crashes were reported in 2023, according to the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).
Of the total, 2,276 people died and 15,409 suffered various degrees of injuries.
In 2022, there were 14,960 traffic crashes reported, resulting in 2,373 fatalities and 15,690 injuries, according to an MTTD statement.
Accra, Tema 994, Eastern 490, Eastern North 139, Eastern South 881, Central 576, Central East 295, Central North 196, Western 706, Western North 237, Ashanti 2,312, Ashanti North 421, and Ashanti South 684 were the following regions’ crash data for 2023.
Ahafo 128; Upper West 147; Upper East 143; Bono 133; Bono East 165; Oti 49; Volta 319; Volta North 101; Savanna 66; and Northern 115.
23,998 vehicles in total were involved. There were 8,084 commercial vehicles, 10,767 private vehicles, and 5,147 motorcycles.
