In the 2026 World Cup qualifications, Ghana put on an incredible display as they defeated Chad 5-0 in a crowded Accra Sports Stadium to take the lead in Group I with 12 points.

Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew both scored goals. Ernest Nuamah, Inaki Williams, and Mohamed Salisu allowed Otto Addo’s team to fully capitalize after Madagascar, their next opponent, fell to Mali 3-0 early on Thursday.

Antoine Semenyo scored the game-winning goal following a series of ricochets in the box, taking advantage of a goalmouth scramble just 87 seconds into the match.

Chad was stunned by Ghana’s high-pressing approach right from the start.

Soon, the Black Stars’ unrelenting pressure paid off.

Inaki Williams delivered on his pre-game promise to score his second goal in a Ghanaian shirt with a powerful header after Kinglsey Schindler’s precise cross.

Jordan Ayew scored a penalty kick five minutes after Semenyo was fouled in the box. Ghana enjoyed a 3-0 lead at the break, while Chad was unable to manage a single attempt on goal.

The intensity of the first and second halves was same. Ernest Nuamah clinched the victory with a calm finish following a deft backheel assist from Ayew, and Mohammed Salisu doubled his season total with a strong header from Nuamah’s corner.

To determine at least who will top the group until the qualifiers start in September, Otto Addo’s team will get ready for Monday’s travel to Morocco to play Madagascar.
