According to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Greater Accra Region will mark the 40th National Farmers’ Day on Friday, November 8, 2024.
The yearly occasion honors the crucial roles that farmers and fishermen play in Ghana’s food security and economy.
The topic for this year’s festival is “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security.”
Ghana’s dedication to implementing farming methods that tackle the escalating issues brought on by climate change is highlighted by the subject.
The Ministry also disclosed that Agrifest Ghana 2024, a five-day National Agricultural Fair, will take place prior to the festivities in a statement released on Wednesday, October 23.
Agrifest, which will take place from November 4 to November 8, will highlight the nation’s rich agricultural history and give farmers and other stakeholders a forum for innovation and information sharing.
On November 8, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is anticipated to honor outstanding farmers in 16 prize categories during the National Awards Night, which will mark the culmination of the celebrations.
National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer are among the esteemed awards.
In light of environmental changes, the event will also provide a platform for discussion on sustainable farming methods, according to the Ministry.
Encouraging farmers to implement climate-resilient practices is intended to guarantee long-term food security.
In order to accommodate the general elections in 2024, this year’s event, which was formerly held in December, has been rescheduled to November.
