The Ghana Labour Export Program will formally commence, according to President John Dramani Mahama, as part of initiatives to establish foreign employment relationships and generate opportunities for employment for the nation’s youth.

During his ongoing Thank You tour, the President spoke to residents of the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31. He stated that the government is now in advanced talks with many nations that are experiencing a labor shortage to allow Ghanaian professionals to work overseas on fixed-term contracts.

“We will soon launch the Ghana Labour Export Programme. There are labour shortages in many countries across the world. We are negotiating with several of those countries to export some of our professionals to work on fixed-term contracts abroad,” President Mahama stated.

It is anticipated that the curriculum will cover a wide range of subject matter, such as logistics, construction, hospitality, health, and agriculture. Among the targeted groups are workers who work as electricians, welders, mechanics, nurses, chefs, caterers, drivers, warehouse supervisors, and machine operators.

The president revealed that an agreement to export 2000 temporary workers has already been reached with one nation. He promised that all 16 regions in Ghana, including the host region of Ahafo, will have equal opportunities in the selection process for the program.

“A contract has been signed with one country for the export of 2000 temporary workers. Young qualified people will be selected fairly from all the 16 regions of our country, including Ahafo,” President Mahama added.
