Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General, has issued a warning to all public officials that anyone found guilty of financial crimes or corruption while in office will face prosecution.

“The country was turned into a crime scene for eight years,” the Attorney General of Ghana stated.

Dr. Ayine emphasized during a press conference on Monday that he will take legal action against authorities without waiting for them to step down.

During his update on the Operation for Recover All Loot (ORAL) team’s progress in looking into financial malfeasance during the previous administration, he issued the warning.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to tell everyone in public office who is listening to me that if you do what suspect Adu Boahene did, I’ll come after you. I’m not going to wait because I have the authority of Mr. President that if you engage in anything like what Mr. Adu Boahene has done, or any act of criminality, I will not wait—I will come after you. So, this is a warning to everyone,” he stated.

Dr. Ayine cited a number of financial crime cases from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, such as Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former director-general of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), who is accused of laundering more than $7 million.

Mr. Adu Boahene is charged by the Attorney General with embezzling state funds and laundering them through Accra real estate deals.

It is also thought that he used alleged illegal cash to purchase other homes outside of Ghana. Investigators claim that Adu Boahene redirected government contracts for his own benefit by using a private corporation he founded.

Before being elevated to lead the NSB from 2017 to 2025, Mr. Adu Boahene was the Deputy Director-General. He is presently being investigated for misappropriating state funds.

Dr. Ayine did not hold back when outlining the level of corruption in the former government.
