Ghanaian business mogul Alhaji Aoma Banda is dead

Alhaji Asoma Banda, a trailblazer in Ghana’s aviation and shipping sectors, has died. Early on Saturday, March 1, 2025, he passed away.

Nigerian businessman and close friend Dele Momodu revealed the news of his death on social media, honoring him on Instagram.

“Such a privilege knowing this adorable couple, ALHAJI & EDWINA ASOMA-BANDA, in the last three decades… Today, the elephant has fallen… May ALLAH bless BAABA for keeping ALHAJI comfortable to the end. May ALLAH comfort the entire family, his wives, and children,” Mr Dele wrote.

The report has been verified by notable individuals, such as Delle Mahmoud and Sam Jonah.

“This morning, Ghana has lost a true patriot, a visionary entrepreneur, and a giant of industry,” he stated.

Jonah emphasized how Alhaji Banda transformed Ghana’s economy, especially with Antrak Airlines, which transformed domestic air travel.

“From establishing Antrak Shipping Line to expanding airline operations across West Africa, he believed in the power of African enterprise. He saw potential where others saw decline, and his bid to take over Ghana Airways was a testament to his unwavering belief in Ghanaian ingenuity.”

Alhaji Banda made important contributions to Ghana’s economic environment by pioneering the shipping and aviation sectors.

He was a key figure in the revolution of domestic air travel in Ghana and West Africa, having formed Antrak Shipping Line.

Alhaji Banda is anticipated to be buried on the same day in accordance with Islamic custom.

Renowned businessman Sir Sam Jonah also paid tribute to Alhaji Banda, calling him a national treasure and visionary entrepreneur whose influence molded Ghana’s aviation and shipping industries.

Alhaji Banda was renowned for his knowledge, tenacity, and commitment to Ghana’s development in addition to his commercial accomplishments.
