The Afrobarometer has reviewed its 2024 survey results, highlighting the pressing issues of Ghanaians as they await Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s 2025 budget presentation today.
According to the Afrobarometer study, which was first carried out in August 2024, the public’s top three priorities for government action are healthcare, inadequate infrastructure, and unemployment.
The study revealed that 41% of participants cited unemployment as their top worry, underscoring the difficulties many Ghanaians encounter in finding employment despite their credentials.
Economic uncertainty and social discontent are fueled by the lack of work possibilities, which continue to be a cause of unhappiness, particularly for youths.
Roads and infrastructure came in second at 38%, illustrating the everyday struggles residents face as a result of limited transportation, subpar road networks, and undeveloped public facilities. Many cities still have poor roads, which hinder economic growth, make transit challenging, and have an impact on businesses.
Third place went to healthcare, with 33% of Ghanaians being concerned about the quality of the nation’s healthcare system. Long hospital lines, high medical costs, and subpar facilities continue to be significant obstacles, especially for low-income families that find it difficult to pay for high-quality healthcare.
The rising expense of living (21%), economic management (25%), and education (28%), which all indicate the financial strains on households, were other major issues.
The average Ghanaian’s life has become more challenging due to inflation, rising food prices, and dwindling purchasing power, which has raised expectations for tomorrow’s budget.
Policymakers seem to be reminded of the true difficulties Ghanaians face by Afrobarometer’s decision to re-emphasize these issues at this crucial juncture.
Many folks will be eagerly observing Dr. Forson’s budget presentation in the hopes of seeing measures that provide alleviation and workable answers to these enduring problems.
