The country that former President John Mahama handed over to President Nana Akufo Addo in 2017 is not the one Ghanaians are seeing, he claims.

Under Nana Akufo Addo’s leadership, Mr. Mahama claimed, the economy has collapsed and the country is drowning in debt.

He described the last eight years as a time of suffering and destitution, during which only a small number of people accumulated wealth for personal gain.

In a clear jab at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahama claimed that the NDC has made more progress than the NPP in the nearly eight years that the NPP has been in office and that the NPP has not helped the Asuogyaman constituency develop.

As he began his two-day Building Ghana campaign tour in the Eastern region on Tuesday, John Dramani Mahama made this statement at Frankadua in the Asuogyaman district.

Mahama praised Assin North voters for rejecting purported attempts at vote buying, citing recent electoral events, and warned Asuogyaman residents against falling for similar strategies.

He emphasized the significance of voting against what he called the misappropriation of public funds for vote buying, and he urged them not to be afraid of intimidation.

In order to ensure that all citizens enjoy prosperity, President Mahama gave the people confidence that the NDC would prioritize economic recovery if it were elected.

Chiefs expressed concerns about the collapse of Juapong Textile Limited, to which Mr. Mahama responded by promising that the next NDC government would work with private investors to resurrect the textile company and open more factories.

He also outlined plans to use the Tema-Akosombo rail infrastructure started during the previous NDC administration to strengthen Asuogyaman’s economy and add jobs.

Additionally, Mr. Mahama promised fishermen that the premix fuel industry would be depoliticized and that outboard motor subsidies would be reinstated.

Chief of Atimpoku Nana Kwaku Budu used the occasion to urge President Mahama to build poor roads in the region when he takes office in 2025.
