According to Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Atta, Ghana’s GDP under President Akufo-Addo’s final year in office is expected to grow from GH¢219.5 billion in 2016 to over GH¢1 trillion in 2024.

That would be the first time in the history of the economy of the nation to surpass the GH¢1 trillion GDP threshold.

This was revealed by Mr. Ofori Atta, who stated that success was achievable when he gave the parliament the 2024 Budget statement today, Wednesday.

“A key lesson from this leap since 2017 is for us to eschew unfounded pessimism.

“We have shown that it is possible. We should be collectively proud of ourselves and the can-do-spirit of our people. We have proven that a lot more is possible, if we stay the course and believe in a future of immense possibilities,” he said.

The 2024 Budget, also known as “nkunim” (victory), outlined the government’s initiatives for tax reduction, job development, and social protection.

Although the economy has been in a difficult place since 2021, Mr. Ofori Atta stated that there are now indications of improvement and revival.

At this point, he emphasized, “I want to stress that Ghana is back on track.”

A few national executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), including its chairman Stephen Ntim, were seated in the public gallery. There were also Akosua Frema Opare Osie, Chief of Staff of the Office of the President, and Yaw Osafo Marfo, Senior Presidential Advisor.
