The Ghana Statistical Service’s most recent forecasts show that the country’s population has surpassed 33 million and is anticipated to reach 52.47 million by 2050.
According to the statistical agency, Ghana’s population was 30.8 million at the end of the 2021 population and housing census. However, between 2021 and 2030, 711,706 new people would be added to the population year, bringing the total population to 37.24 million by the year 2030.
Furthermore, the nation’s urban population is expected to increase further, from 56.7% in 2021 to 60.7% in 2030.
The service claims that by 2030, Greater Accra would be under more demographic strain.
Ghana’s population is predicted to increase from 6.5% to 10.8% (or more people over 60) by 2050.
The most recent estimates, according to government statistician Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, highlight the necessity for further discussions over the retirement age.
