Former head of the now-defunct National Security Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has asserted that GH¢5.1 million, which is currently under investigation, was utilized to buy cars for then-President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
Adu-Boahene, who is presently being held on remand, wrote a letter from EOCO custody outlining what he called a summary of Special Operations expenditures made during the delicate post-election transition period.
The former security head vehemently denied the accusations made against him. The Attorney General has accused him with several charges of theft and causing financial harm to the state.
Every payment made at the NSB under his direction, he maintained, had to be approved and properly tied to national security operations. He wrote, “I am not a thief,” “All funds were expended in good faith and in service to the Republic.”
Adu-Boahene wrote that the procurement was done under urgent and secret orders and that the vehicles in question were necessary for the new President and his team’s logistical demands.
